Siddapura is a town and the headquarters of Siddapura taluk (administrative division) in Uttara Kannada (North Canara) district of the state of Karnataka in southern India. It is nestled among the Western Ghats of Karnataka. Areca nut cultivation is the primary occupation of the people of this taluk.
As of 2001[update] India census[1], Siddapur had a population of 14,049. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Siddapur has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 72%. In Siddapur, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Kannada is the most widely spoken language.
Mostly Namadharis, Gaud saraswats, Halakki Vokkaligas, havyaks, Christians, Daivajnas, and Muslims inhabited the town of Siddapur.
The main occupation of the residents of Siddapura is agriculture. Supari (Arecanut) is the primary business of the people. Other than arecanut, commodities like paddy, coffee, pineapple, cardamom, coconut, pepper and vanilla are also grown.
